Archery Safety RequirementsFor all archery events, Council or Service Unit, the High Risk Activity Form is required for every participant. If your troop is planning an Archery activity, the Trip Application packet must be submitted along with the signed High Risk Activity form for each participant, and a copy of your instructors proof of certification.

Archery is quickly becoming a favorite activity for our older Girl Scouts. They must be a second year Brownie or older to participate in any Council archery events, but private archery lessons are available for your troops with a certified Archery instructor. Though Daisies and first year Brownies are capable of learning how to use a bow, the age restriction is due more to arm strength than maturity level. They need to be able to physically pull a bowstring with approximately 20 lbs of force. For younger girls wishing to practice, a suction cup archery set is recommended and can be purchased at Toys R Us for a reasonable price.
Council has quarterly archery events and is seeking more certified instructors. The current Archery Event Series comes with 3 levels- Maiden, Scout and Huntress, and are taught in procession. Which means for the girls to level up to Scout, they must complete the Maiden level first. Camp Arnaz has recently updated their archery range and it is beautiful and most of all, it is safe. Click here for Council events. If you would like to become Archery Certified for your troop, there are locations around the county where you can participate in the training classes and take the Archery Certification test. |
